Each year, DCI’s annual meeting is time together to celebrate the great care provided in our clinics and the hard work and dedication of our employees to fulfill our mission each day. Earlier this fall in St. Pete Beach, Fla., we recognized individuals, clinics, hospital services programs and clinic leadership focused on providing excellent dialysis care to our patients.

DCI Darwin Peterson Award Winners
We celebrate our 2024 top-performing dialysis clinics – DCI Maryville in Maryville, Tenn., and DCI Onawa in Onawa, Neb. – with the DCI Darwin Peterson Award for achieving the best quality and patient outcomes.
Onawa received the Darwin Award as a small, in-center hemodialysis clinic, serving 34 or fewer patients, and Maryville was named the Darwin Award winner as a large, in-center hemodialysis clinic serving 35 patients or more. Darwin Peterson award criteria include being a Gold Star honoree for strong patient outcomes, as well as percentages of patients with a catheter for more than 90 days, patients on the UNOS transplant waiting list and medical reconciliation.

QAPI Educational Awards Winners
We’re proud to recognize three DCI clinics for their dedication to identifying a challenge and collaborating on an improved outcome during Quality Assurance Performance Improvement meetings. Within their clinics, they identified a problem and root cause, discussed action items, and sought and documented results. Clinics summarized their challenge, how it was addressed and their outcomes and were awarded points to be named recipients of DCI’s QAPI Educational Awards for Hemodialysis.

Congratulations to 12 DCI clinics honored as Gold Star Facilities. From August 2023 to July 2024, 12 DCI clinics met or exceeded the following Star Award criteria: Catheter > 90 Days, Patients Active on the UNOS Transplant Waitlist, Medical Reconciliation and encouraging patients to receive the Flu vaccine.

5 Diamond Patient Safety Program
Our clinics strive to reinforce the importance of patient safety within their facilities and the 5 Diamond Patient Safety Program helps them to learn ways to assess and improve. Clinics earn the designation when successfully completing five modules and staff answering questionnaires. DCI is proud to name these 5 Diamond Patient Safety Program Award recipients.
2024 Hospital Services Deficiency-free Accreditation Survey Honorees
DCI recognized Area Operations Managers and Nurse Managers from hospital programs with deficiency-free accreditation surveys in 2024. These programs comply with the Conditions of Participation, regulatory requirements for participating in Medicare and receiving Medicare and Medicaid payments. The dialysis programs met all Conditions of Participation requirements as part of their hospital-wide programs.

DCI Poster Contest
DCI’s annual meeting includes a poster contest for clinics educating their patients about all things kidney disease and dialysis. We applaud the creativity of DCI employees highlighting pertinent topics for our patients. Congratulations to DCI Lexington, Ky., for the Most Impactful Poster award and to KCA New Iberia, La., for the Most Creative Poster award.
