“I’ve been blessed by my time at DCI.”

Ed Creamer, Director of Risk Management, recently retired after nearly two decades with DCI. Ed’s storied professional career took him in all directions, from basketball coach to Secret Service agent, to law practice, before he landed at DCI for a change of pace.

After attending the University of Louisville in Kentucky on a basketball scholarship, he was a high school basketball coach and teacher, looking to do something different with his life. He applied for a position with the Secret Service, was shortly recruited and spent the next 23 years in this career, before heading to law school.

After deciding that practicing law wasn’t for him, he became a consultant for a Nashville-area hospital and, finding that he had a passion for healthcare, he found his calling in risk management when a position opened up at DCI.

Ed emphasized that the people he worked with are what he will miss the most about DCI. Throughout the course of his career here, he forged strong bonds with his colleagues, who feel more like family after more than 18 years.

“There’s a lot of great people here, and it’s a great place to work,” Ed said.

He also noted that most of the people he’s worked with have been at DCI for decades. “It’s rare to hear about someone leaving DCI,” he said. “People come here and retire here.”

“People here are always willing to help with whatever you need, even if they don’t know you,” he added.

DCI’s supportive atmosphere was the perfect place for Ed to land when he was searching for the next phase in his professional career.

One of Ed’s colleagues shared how he was always an encourager, a listening ear, a vivid storyteller and a great friend. His wealth of knowledge, from professional to life experience, inspired many he worked with over the years.

Though coaching wasn’t his passion, that mentality never truly left him.

“Ed has been a great coach and mentor over the last 18 years,” said Shannon Jamison, DCI Director of Insurance. “I have enjoyed working together and will miss his encouragement.”

Another colleague admired his dedication to DCI’s mission, his expert knowledge and his wonderful personality.

“Ed has been an amazing colleague and friend here at DCI,” says Jack Thompson, DCI Chief Legal Officer. “We all appreciate everything he has done to help DCI ensure it can continue its mission. We will miss not only his expertise but also just getting to work with such a great person. All the best on a well-deserved retirement, Ed!”

Most notably, Ed taught his DCI family that it’s never too late to expand your mind and learn more.

“Ed taught me, regardless of where you are in life, you can always learn something new,” said Shannon.

In retirement, Ed looks forward to picking up golf again, restoring antique furniture, spending more time with family and traveling, especially to the beach.

Congratulations, Ed, on a well-deserved retirement after an illustrious and exceptional career. We thank you for your contributions to DCI over these last 18 years.
