outREACHers – Spartanburg, SC

Reach Kidney Care’s Purpose Project took place on July 21 ,2017 in Spartanburg, SC. The REACH team sent out invitations to many local churches, senior centers / clubs, support groups, and some businesses. Although there wasn’t a huge turnout, two women from the public, along with many from local businesses (e.g., Mary Black, Spartanburg Nephrology Associates, and Regenesis), stated that they thoroughly enjoyed the event, especially when a former patient spoke about their experience. Besides the former patient speaking, Shennon Wofford and Patti Kelly both spoke about DCI’s and REACH’s history and mission, along with kidney disease and how high blood pressure and diabetes can affect the kidneys. With all of this information being provided, the public seemed to be thankful and stated that they would come back for another event if one was provided.

REACH Kidney Care realizes that churches are an integral part patients lives. By reaching out and educating members of the church about kidney disease, we can make a strong impact in the community. We are seeking representatives from all churches in the area to empower them with education regarding diabetes, hypertension and kidney disease so that they can go back to their congregation and be a constant resource in their church. We also want the community to know that the Spartanburg REACH program is available to them.
