Our facility joined the community health fair sponsored by Ozark Medical Center. Their theme was “Ladies First”. Our team was hoping to make people more aware of our unique services in the community and to promote good kidney health. We had around 300 people visit our booths over a period of 3½ hours on the evening of June 27th.
We had five of our facility employees assisting at two booths. One booth did blood pressures and shared information about DCI and the National Kidney Foundation, and we provided information sheets on blood pressure, defining renal failure, and kidney disease progression.
The second booth provided lower sodium snacks and nutrition handouts. We served raw vegetable trays and a low sodium baked oyster cracker snack. We heard several comments from visitors who particularly enjoyed the raw vegetable trays. More than one said “So you are the people with the good food, we kept seeing it and wanted to find you!”
We had a variety of employees on-hand to answer questions from the public, including the Hemodialysis Nurse Manager, the Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse Manager, a Charge Nurse, the Social Worker, and the Dietitian.
