Uptown Kidney Funk – Indianapolis, IN

Uptown Kidney Funk

Description:

Millions of Americans are at risk for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) due to family history, uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure. Early detection and treatment can slow or prevent disease progression. Our Indianapolis team will invite the family members of our dialysis patients to a screening and educational event at our clinic to promote kidney health. Timely screening and effective intervention could reduce risk factors and slow progression of generational CKD.

Purpose:

To address a leading public health problem in our community.  Undiagnosed CKD leads to ESRD. Early testing and intervention can slow this life threatening illness. People at risk for CKD due to family history will profit from lowering blood pressure, managing glucose, reducing sodium and decreasing BMI.  We will assess /refer family members and educate them during an enjoyable afternoon.  One practical focus will be the “Benefits of Cooking at Home” and each family will receive a slow cooker to prepare renal friendly meals. DCI of Indianapolis will help to reduce generational CKD.
