Description
June 11 was an exciting day for the Cajun Kidney Crusaders! Ten DCI employees with varying specialties partnered with ESRD Network 13 in playing and carrying-out of our first Kidney Community Gathering. We had an amazing turnout of five patient panelists and 15 participants from the community as well as a few people who stopped in just to ask a few questions. A local library hosted our event and provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere for a day of renal information. Everyone enjoyed renal-friendly finger foods, renal education, a patient panel who was able to answer several questions, a few renal professionals who discussed treatment options, and a cooking demonstration by a charming dietitian. We were even able to enjoy a local illusionist who came by to give us a very funny magic show! Our special thanks to a patient advocate who participated in all aspects of the day and made the event flow with ease. One of our local nephrologists was even able to stop by at the end of the day and give his perspective on the importance of taking care of yourself no matter where you are in your journey with kidney disease.
