Description
"The Intellects" have developed a DVD to educate "at risk" patients for development of CKD, which is a growing chronic condition nationally; and particularly in the Southeastern United States. The DVD discusses the stages of CKD-Stage 1 Mild to Stage 5 End Stage Renal Disease that requires renal replacement therapies. We focus on diabetes and hypertension-the two leading causes of development of CKD, and the importance of proper diet and exercise. We also are encouraging the general public to watch the DVD to aid in understanding CKD and its impact on the community. Our team has used DCI's Mission Statement as the basis of our program. "We are a service organization. The care of the patient is our reason for existence." We have sent out a letter to surrounding health clinics that we have given the DVD to, informing them of our mission and the importance of showing this educational DVD to their patients. We are providing information via the newspaper and television news that the DVD can be viewed at the North Shelby clinic.
