Free Health Fair and Renal Friendly Cook-Off
Location & Address
Diabetes Management Supply 10 Commerce Court, Harahan, LA 70123
The Kidney Gras was a success. We had about 75 people in attendance in spite of the 100 degree temperature. Thanks to all of the patients, family members and vendors who attended. A special thanks also goes to our chefs who provided a wonderful renal friendly meal. Everyone who attended appeared to have a great time.
Dialysis Clinic, Incorporated (DCI), a non-profit organization providing dialysis to end–stage renal patients, sponsored a free and open to the public “Kidney Gras Health Fair and Renal Friendly Cook-Off”. This event was provided in celebration of DCI’s 40 Years of Care and as an act of service to the New Orleans community.
There were free door prizes along with a DJ for entertainment. Kids Kidney Corner was on site featuring face painting, snowballs, and lemonade. Local dialysis tech students performed free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings. A chef from Ochsner Kenner and a chef from St. Charles Surgical Hospital prepared the renal friendly recipes given to them by DCI registered dietitians. All food and produce were donated by St. Charles Surgical Hospital.
Presentations were given by local agencies to address the following topics:
• Secondary Insurance
• Organ Donation
• Kidney transplantation
• Five Wishes
• Estate Planning
• Dental Health
• Mental Health
American Diabetes Association, local home health agencies, DME companies and Hospice agencies were on hand to provide information and answer questions regarding health care issues.
